The School began in 1912 with three boys on a verandah of a house in Toowong. From this uncertain and fragile start, something altogether remarkable has emerged. The Centenary in 2012 will be a time to reflect both on the Churchie story and a century of great achievement. It will be an occasion to honour 100 years of teaching and learning and a celebration of the achievements and memories of over 20,000 Old Boys of the School and their contribution to the life of the nation. In a particular way, it is time to acknowledge the selflessness of parents who for a century have placed their faith in the School, as well as an occasion to give thanks to those who have served the School with loyalty and affection. The celebration of 2012 promises to be an uplifting experience for the life of the School. Old Boys or current students, parents and staff both present and past, supporters and friends of the School - you are part of this milestone. You are invited to be part of it…
From the Headmaster Mr Jonathan Hensman
As the centenary approaches there is a growing sense of anticipation. A centenary is always a cause for considerable celebration and it provides the best excuse for members of our School community to join together as a collective. Considerable planning has already taken place with intensified efforts before us to ensure we all enjoy 2012 in whatever forum suits us best. The publications referred to in this website will engage us all and I would encourage your readership of both volumes, The Centenary History and The Centenary Register. Churchie is a School with an enviable reputation, recognised as one of Australia’s most esteemed Schools. Its essence lies in its Mission, which has remained steadfast since 1912. It is a School with tangible soul and its Old Boys are, in the main, testament to this statement. We are a School of yesterday, today and tomorrow, relevant to the future of this nation, producing men of character who understand what it is to be gentlemen who attempt to ‘finish hard’.
